Druckguss Westfalen Behringer wins 2020 Automotive Zinc Die Casting Award

Zamak body for the BMW M series gear selector

Initiative Zink and the Association of German Die Casting Foundries announced the winners of the 2020 Zinc Die Casting Awards at the official opening ceremony for the EUROGUSS 2020 die casting trade fair in Nuremberg on the evening of 13 January 2020. Award winners were selected in the categories Automotive, Sanitary, Lifestyle, Electrical/Mechanical, Medical and Security.

Druckguss Westfalen Behringer was awarded first place in the Automotive category for its entry, the Zamak body for the BMW M series gear selector. The specialist jury composed of recognised die casting experts were particularly impressed by the solution for the mould design. As almost the entire surface of the gear selector is visible, positioning the cut-out and the moulding presented a challenge. Druckguss Westfalen Behringer delivered a smart solution.

The award-winning castings were also showcased in a 360° video during the opening evening of EUROGUSS and attracted a great deal of attention from the trade public and press.  The castings themselves can be viewed in the foyer of the Nuremberg trade fair and at the Initiative Zink booth until 16 January.

The awards launched by Initiative Zink have been held at EUROGUSS for the eighth time.  They aim to highlight the potential, versatility and outstanding properties of zinc diecast products. In addition, they provide an opportunity to display the capabilities of foundries in the German-speaking world. Druckguss Westfalen Behringer regards the award as confirmation for its strategy of continuous quality improvement in zinc diecast components.

According to the jury, the award-winning casting impressively demonstrates that there are automotive applications with requirements that can only be met by zinc die casting.
